Does anyone have opinions on what oil to run in a newremanufacted 4.7. I am thinking after the breakin oil is out, run synthetic in it?

Are all synthetics greated equal, as long as they have the same ratings and certification?

Thanks Dave

I use Mobile 1 Truck and SUV synthetic. I'm running 5W-30 right now, since it's so cold.

I use quaker state full synthetic 10-30 I wouldn't use 5 unless you are below zero on a regular basis and not going over 0 while it is in the engine and unless you're in Canada or AK then I doubt it is that cold constantly...

I had the engine replaced on my R/T. A new (not rebuilt) engine from DC, that came with a 3 yr/36K
Warranty. It cost $5K. It runs like new.

I always use castrol GTX syntec 10w30. and I love it. my engine used to burn a lil oil ( like 1/2 litre every 5000kms) now it doesnt burn a drop. and I put the used oil outta the 99 in the 88. and it used to knock and rattle like hell. and now its stopped.

One more question for the experience out there.

Is there any way for me, as the end consummer, to know whether the TSB for the baffle in the valve cover has been applied to my newly remanufactured 4.7 engine?

Thanks

I am not aware of any baffle on the valve covers, but there is an upgraded piece that you should find under your oil fill cap that looks like a funky dipstick. You can pull it out to clean it.
If you lookthere and find the "dipstick", then you have the updated "baffle"

Don,

Thanks for the info. When I get my Durango back next week, I will check under the oil CAP. Since this will be a rebuilt, and if the Mod is not there, I guess I will have to pay the dealer to do it since it is not the original engine.

Default remanufactured 4.7

How many miles should I run a remanufactured engine before the first oil change?
