I currently have a 1991 Dodge Dakota (318) and I have used it for pulling for the past years. Recently it has been nickle and diming me so I think I am going to look into the Gen 1 Durangos(college student so I cannot get anything too expensive) . What do I need to look for when I am looking at these SUV's? What problems do the durangos have to deal with at certain miles?

 

Tranny/ Sludge

 

Yes I have often heard several people talk about having problems with the tranny. What is the deal with this? Does it have to deal with poor maintenance/abuse or are the transmissions that poor?

 

Not sure, purchased 99 5.2L 4X4 Durhango w/ 53,000. Wife loves it can't wait to get her out of it so I can have it. I got a sludge machine (didn't have my mech check it out) other than that I pull my in-laws 22 ft Fun deck. These machines are beasts, Oh yeah I have 120,+ now and sounds good. I'm just challenged with a t-stat.
