Default Double DIN in First Gen

Hello all. I have searched the audio forum with no luck. Has anyone tried to put a Double DIN stereo into a 2000 Durango? It looks like I will have to do some dash cutting, which I am not too worried about (junk yard here has another dash facia if I go badly wrong) but would like any tips before getting in there. I just scored a Pioneer AVIC D1 for an amazing price so obviously want to get it to fit. I know a single DIN would mean less work but I do like having the touchscreen in the dash. Any help appreciated.

Yes it can be done. I've seen a couple, in fact I almost did it myself to my dakota (same dash). Youll have quite a bit of cutting to the bezel and behind. Once you cut the heating ducts to fit the radio, you'll want to block them off so excess heat isn't blowing on the radio. You'll need to do some filling in as well because the opening youll have from cutting out the vents is actually larger than double din by a hair.
