Default Clink in steering

So last week, my 02 Durango with 50k miles (4.7 4x4), started to make a clicking noise when I move the steering wheel even the slightest bit. It does it just with the play in the wheel, meaning I do not actually have to make the wheels move to make the click. I doubt it is something serious, but it sure is annoying (especially to my wife). Any thoughts?

Have you had the ball joints replaced under the recall? I had a lot of play in the steering wheel until I had my ball joints replaced, and when I turned my wheels there was all kinds of clunking and clicking. I suppose it could also be the PS pump, or the rack... Not sure about those though.

Also you might want to have the steering box adjusted. Also check your tie rod ends and all other front end parts.

The click sounds almost like it is coming from the wheel itself.

One thing to look at. Your plastic lug covers on your rims. Sometimes they pop or clink when the tire is in motion or being turned.

Check to see if your CV boots are compromised. It could be the axels.
