Unhappy Help on a 1995 dodge intrepid

Hello all! A quick question for the mechanics in the bunch. I had a belt break on my vehicle. According to the belt diagram sticker on my car its the belt that runs the A/C unit. The serpentine belt or drive belt or whatever you want to call it (the wide belt with ridges) is still attached and working very well. I would like to know if it is safe to drive my vehicle without this belt. Again, I have a 1995 Dodge Intrepid with a 3.5L motor.

Thanks!

I have seen 3.5 cars run without that belt before. If I remember right the only thing that belt drives is the AC.

Yes...for the most part. The belt is only for the AC but your defog won't work at all until the engine gets hot. Normally, when you select defog, the dry air from the AC clears the winshild in seconds. If you are an old timer (like me) you will remember sitting in the driveway for 5-10 min waiting for the engine to get hot enough to dry the windshield.

Thank you for all of your help! Just wanted a confirmation from those that deal with engines more than I do! lol I was always raised to know how to change oil and brakes, and couldn't leave the yard unless my gas tank was half full and my tires had good tread, but engines I was never big on.

Thanks again!
