Default 93 intrepid doesn't shift past 1st gear, help please?

I have a 93 intrepid, with an automatic transmission. (I believe it's a 3.3L, I can check after work)

Ok so here's the problem.

When i start the car, it wont go into reverse. When i shift it into D it wont move. If i tap the gas, just a little, the car will jerk, then go into drive. But it doesn't shift past first gear (I haven't taken it above 4,000rpms). Now if I'm moving (at any speed) and shift it to N, turn it off, then turn it back on and shift it back to D, it'll shift into any gear just fine. Until i come to a complete stop. Then the car jerks and will on drive in first again (Until i turn it off and on again).

I noticed it this past winter, and i used to be able to leave it running for 5 or 10 mins, (In park) and turn it off and on again and it would work fine. It stopped doing it altogether during they day when spring hit (and it was warm outside) but would still do it at night when it got cold. Now it does it all the time. I'm not sure if the tempature was really effecting, but it seemed that way to me.

Any help would be very grateful as i don't know what's wrong. I'll fix it if its nothing to expensive, but i don't want to drop the money for a new tranny.

Thanks,
-David
