oil leak...seal replacement question
Has anyone replaced their front crank seal on a 3.5 before? I have a leak and suspect thats the culprit. If you have, did you use the special seal, and pully pullers? Or is a screwdriver all you need to the the old seal out?
Thanks for any advice,
Kurt

Well you actually need a steering wheel puller and two mid size screws that fit the crank sprocket and you will need a three jaw puller or a chrysler pulley puller and probally a hack saw and drill and bit for the crank key if it cant be punched out into the snout. The seal can pulled with whatever you can get it with ....hooks,screwdrivers,its pretty easy just install the new one in the exact same spot or it might leak a little untill it sets good. Be carfull when you are trying to knock that key through because you can bend the crank hitting it to hard. All the pullers you can rent at autozone.
I don't remember what size it was square I went to oreillys and bought three sizes of key stock which is cheap and I had to cut off a piece and put the bolt for the pulley in the snout then file down the a cut piece of key stock until it fit right and the camshaft sprocket would go on and not have any play. The key needs to be extended out of the crankshaft 3/64 I did not measure mine though. That puller is the right kind of puller to use the rods go to the back of the crank snout hole. I just installed the pulley bolt without the washer and put the three jaw puller jaws around the center of the pulley and tightened the center bolt of the puller while it was pushing on the crank bolt and it came off fine. Its just with a three jaw puller you have to take the radiator out for space.
