I have a 93 Intrepid 3.3 that has been randomly acting like it was going to stall and has actually stalled 4 times. Several times while sitting at a red light the RPMs would drop to near zero then shoot up past the normal idle speed like I was giving it gas then it would drop back to normal idling speed. It may happen a couple of times in one day and then sometimes it would be a couple of days before it would happen again.

When it has actually stalled, it has been random as well. Once it stalled while sitting at a red light and twice it stalled while driving but not giving it any gas. I was able to start it right back up every time.

Yesterday I was giving it gas and it (sort of) stalled but I never let off the gas and after a second it came back and I continued driving. It was odd. All the gauges dropped to zero and it just came back. The radio and lights all stayed on. It happened very quickly. That’s why I never thought to take my foot off the gas. The check engine light did come on for the first time but went off when I turned the car off and back on.

I replaced the fuel filter (which definitely need to be changed) last week and it ran great for several days until yesterday.

Any help to what this could possibly be or how to find out without taking it to the shop would be greatly appreciated. thank you.
