Hey Axe,

I'm new around here and just finding my way. I've got a 94 Eagle Vision as well and it's starting to show signs of the same symptoms listed above. I'm going to start the investigation process now but was wondering if your problems where fixed? Did you find out what it was? Sounds like this is a common problem or at least happening to a number of people, sure would like to know what the answer is.......

Thanx.....

Hello Dodge fans,

I diconnected the battery cable for 10 minutes on my 97 Breeze. That got rid of the code 43, but the car stills runs poorly (bucks under 40mph). Leads me to believe the code was a by-product of my problem, and not the root cause. The check engine light has gone out as well.

I'll let you fine folks know if / when I figure this out.

Ken

To me, all of this points to ECU..whatever some say. Spark plugs and wires do not let go on a sudden: electronics do and are extyremely heat sensitive. Car will start cold , may be run for a while and then start coughing; or will go all the way, then you stop for 10 or 20 minutes and the car wil not start again because at standstill with a warm engine, the electronics lack wind cooling and succumb to heat. GOt that a few weeks ago with a 3.0 liter Caravan (changed the ECU) , got that long ago with a '79 Ford 5.7--changed it 3 times to be exact (it was just electronic ignition then - I would have it start again by pouring a few ounces of GAZOLINE to cool the ignition module through evaporation ) - and.... I think electronics systems are a beauty .... ..until they stop working.

Well,

Another update:

Code 43 is back, along with code 12. I continue to drive the car, car misses at idle, smooths out at cruise, if I stomp on the gas ,it accelerates slowly, after downshifting. When releasing the accelerator, the check engine light flashes(blinks) for about 5 seconds. I'm gonna drive this til it quits, then see if the dealer can fix it. Good thing I'm never more than 5 miles from home with this car.

I'm off to buy a obdII code reader. Good luck, Dodge fans.

Knikula,

I took my car to the shop, they told me that it could be one of the intake gaskets. But after opening mine (97 LHS with the same problem) he told me that it was the plugs and wires. I hope that is the problem.

They also told me that it could be a valve stuck in the open position. I will tell you the out come if the problem gets fixed.

Steve,

Thanks for the reply, when I get the code reader I bought yesterday delivered, I hope to shed some light on the problem. I'll post any success that I have. Did you get a code 43 from the check engine light?

thanks, again.

Got the code reader,

It gives me P0302 , which is misfire of cylinder number 2 . I can erase the codes with the scanner, but in a 4 mile drive the code returns. The MIL (check engine) light still flashes if I tromp the accelerator. The manual states this is to warn me of possible catalytic converter damage. Pretty cool. The manual also says the ECU detects a miss by monitoring the crankshaft speed fluctuations during a single rotation. Also pretty cool.

I pulled the spark plug, it is pretty new and still looks like it came out of the package. Maybe smells a little like gas, but not wet. The car idles fine, only missing under load. Hmmmm.

I laid the plug on the top of the head, and ran it on 3 cylinders, it sparks like a banshee.

It's gotta be the spark plug wire, coil pack, or the ECU, no? Maybe I'll try swapping wires from cyl 1 and 2.

see ya.

Played some more today,

swapped plug wires 1 and 2 today , erased codes with the new scanner, went for a short drive. Code pending was now P0301, misfire in cylinder 1. Woohoo! Stopped , erased codes again, swapped 1 and 4 wires. Drove home, now code pending was P0304, misfire in cylinder 4. This is looking too easy, folks.

Now if I can only buy ONE spark plug wire, I'm in business. Just kidding!!!!

Rock auto has a set, 32 bucks delivered. I'll check locally, see if anybody is close. Ebay has a set for 26 bucks delivered.

Hope that does it!!

Ok, I got my car back from the shop Thurs. and they put a new set of plugs and wires and it runs great. They told me that the last people that messed with the plugs (the Dealership) did not actualy change the wires like they told me because one of the wires had a hole in it where it went in to the head, also the plugs had been changed while the car was hot because all of the plugs were from 1/4 of a turn to one full turn loose. I tell you I will never take my car back to the dealer
