Default Air Conditioner Problem

Hi'
My air conditioner blows hot air so I was going to recharge the freon. I first thought I would check to make sure the condensor kicks on, but don't know how. When I switch the A/C on, there is no engine noise and no noticeable change in the engine. Is this indicative that the condenser is not turning on, and if so, how do I check the switches.

If your car had a/c and it was slightly cold i say recharge it.But to me it sounds like you got a evaporator gone bad.The evaporator is under the dash and its not a cheap job.My folks had the same problem on thier 94 eagle vision 4 years ago and it costed them around 700.00 to fix it.Best bet to take it to a a/c shop and have them do a leak test and go from there..

thanks
pat

Ok, here it is four years later and I'm replying to your post. I was looking for info on my evaporator when I came across this. I figured someone should have told you this back then. Hey, maybe you have been driving all of this time without ac. Well, I thought that you would like to know that your compressor will not come on without freon in the system. You can ground the connection going to it by using a paper clip or wire to make it turn on. However, when you do this....the compressor is not being lubed. The freon usually has oil charge added to lube the compressor. So dont run it to long during your test. Another thing to help you is this. If you don't have a belt around your compressor pulley...that may be a sign that its not working properly. The belt may have came off or was taken off due to a frozen or noisy compressor. Hope this helps you out.
