94 Intrepid Strut Clunk
Hello,
I have a 1994 Dodge Intrepid 3.3L Flex Fuel.
Recently I replaced the struts with NAPA parts, but had to swap over the bellows and other parts as the new units didn't come with them. Immediately I noticed a clunking coming from all the struts. The clunking happens while slowly backing out of my driveway onto the street, a drop of a few inches. It also happens anytime going over any bumps in the road. But if there are no bumps, all is quite. The ride is pretty smooth otherwise. I don't think it's the shock piston itself. It may perhaps be the coil spring mount bushing or equal.
Has anyone had dealings with this issue?
Thanks in advance,
Steve

Good Morning,
It seems the problem was solved yesterday, it was a loose nut (21mm?)at the top of the right front strut piston rod.
I had taken the car to the local Dodge dealership for a diagnosis. They determined after a number of hours that one of my tie rod ends was worn and needed replacement. They quoted me a price of $330.00 for replacement of the one tie rod end. A two wheel steering alignment would be added on top of that for a grand total approaching $400.00.
A local mom-and-pop mechanic we had used in the past also looked at it. In a short time he found the loose nut. It was about 3-1/2 turns loose. He charged us $50.00, but only if the noise went away. If we still heard the noise he said he wouldn't charge us anything. At that point we could either have him look again or simple drive away at no charge.
I'm very pleased with the service we've received from this service center and will use him again for our automotive needs as they arise.
