94 Dodge Intrepid
First off, I have to comment that I am retelling this due to it's my wife's car and this never happens when I'm in it or driving it. It usually happens when she's going over 60mph, the car will feel like its losing power, the cruise control light will come on by itself and the car will not go over 50 mph no matter how much you press the accelerator. The car has also died completely during this time and she would have to pull over to the side of the road and attempt to recrank it, and then it will drive normally for a while. The car has also gone dead at complete stops on occasion. I have recently replaced O2 sensors, a faulty spark plug wire, and one other component that I can not recall at this time (was replaced over 6 months ago...and its been a hectic 6 months.) Just looking for someone to point me in the right direction on a solution or possible cause to this problem.
My first thought was the TPS, but then I thought maybe the reason you see the cruise light come on, is the car power cycled off (the cruise light normally comes on to check the lamp on start up). You may just have a faulty ignition switch! Of course it caould be a PCM also. Are you getting any engine faults? If not, I'd really look at the switch and wiring from the switch.
The ignition switch could be the case. She tells me that at times the car will not crank like the ignition is sticking. Few light taps with a hammer on the ignition and it cranks right up. Something to go on, thanks. Also I believe the PCM is the mystery part i replaced a while back.
