Hi, I have a 96 Intrepid w/ a 3.3L and 116k miles. I just bought it and when I start it up it sounds as if the motor is ticking. THe ticking is kind of loud and it is consistant w/ the RPMs. I've changed the oil and put a quart of Lucas in it but it didnt help any. I pulled the valve covers off today and everything looked normal. WHat could the problem be and is this common?

 

Sounds like you may have a collapsed lifter.Try putting in a can of the engine restorer it may help some to quiet it.But if not you may need to do some top end work perhaps replace a cam and lifters..My 94 vison 3.3 is at 190k and purrs like a kitten with no ticking.I guess its all in all who takes care of the car and does regular matinence to it..
