Default Neon EGR System

Hey,
My question is, do you guys think the EGR system in the Neon is necessary and or causes a loss in performance? I was reading all about vehicle emissions and know that the EGR means Exhaust Gas Recirculation which seems to me like it would decrease the Neon's performance. I have heard of someone who disconnected his in his Neon and was wondering is that’s a wise thing to do or if it would help increase performance at all. I know obviously it may mess up your vehicle NOx when you go to get your emissions tested for state inspection. Just wondering your thoughts not really knowing myself much about a car's emissions system.

I have also posted a pic of a valve on top of the DOHC engine, probably on the SOHC one as well. I know the other end leads into your air intake, what is this valve, just a breather valve or is it something that would be better off w/ a breather filter on it rather than connected to the air intake? Thanks in advance.

Blocking or removing the EGR system will not affect performance at all. It won't hurt you nor give you any gains.

You can attach a breather filter to the valve, but why? It's already getting filtered air attached to the tube.
