Default 1997 neon EGR Valve- Where?

Hi,
I have a 97 neon and my warning light went on. Took it to a mechanic who hooked it up to a computer and he said that the egr valve needs to be replaced. So i purchased it online cause the guy wanted too much for it. I want to install it myself, but dont know where on engine it is. I have the haynes manual for the car, but i cant seem to orient myself.

Anyone have some pictures on where the egr valve is?
Is it hard to get to? is it a difficult process to remove the old one and install a new one?
Do i install it from under the car or from the hood?

thnx

It should be on the driver's side of the engine. You'll probably have to remove your air filter assembly, but you should be able to do it under the hood. Watch out for vacuum line routing, though. If you have the same Haynes manual I do, check out chapter 6, section 6 for the EGR. Also, page 6-10 has a drawing of the EGR system, shown from the driver's side of the car. Hope this helps.

Driver's side of the head. Here are some pics from this post....

You will need some extensions to get to the lower bolt on the EGR valve and its a tight squeeze but you can get it out.

tried to replace the egr myself but i just couldnt do it. There is not enough room to stick my wrench in there. There are too many wires/pipes and the battery housing is in the way. I tried removing the battery housing but there is a million screws holding it in, and all of them are horribly rusty.

Any suggestions?

You need to remove the battery and the tray. Use some penetrating lubricant (not WD40) to get the old rusty bolts loose.
