I am looking at buying a 98 Neon for my son with 98,000 Miles for $1500. The Main Problem is the car dies when put into reverse. Any ideas much appreciated. Thanks

 

The only thing I can think of is possibly the neutral switch, I dont know too much about that as I have never had any problems like that on a neon, does it do it in any other shift positions? Das or someone might know more about it, hopefully they decide to come and help. Good luck, and, if it dies in reverse, Do they really think they can get 1500 out of it? If you can get it cheap then fix the problem it would be worth it, if not, I would run, run far far away.

 

yea i think 1500 seems a little high priced, i would guess your gonna need to replace or fix the transmission. sounds like a valve body problem or someone messed with the band adjustments and got reverse way too tight.
