Default head interchangability

i have a friends 96 sohc sitting in my driveway that broke a timing belt.....i figure the valves are bad so he found a head from a 95 for free.....but will a 95 head fit on a 96????
i would of thought it would, but im noticing alot of headgasket sets that are for either just a 95, or a 96-99
i just wanna know before i go through the work of getting the other head.....and i need to know which gaskets to get

The 95 head will work, might have to use a 96-99 valve cover though.

u can uses the original 96 valve cover but u will need to get 3 M8 x 1.25 bolts for3 of the holes that hold the valve cover on because on the 95 model cars there was a bracket that went over top of the valve cover that the coil sat on. it used M8 x 1.25 bolts. what i did when i put my 96 valve cover on was use all of the 96 M6 boltsexcept forwhere the3 M8 bolts go and then i just went and got some M8 bolts of the appropriate length with washers and put the 3 o-rings left over from the 96 bolts on and put them in. i had no problems what so ever.

Wouldn’t there be issues with the PCV system as well?
What about just swapping the valves into the original head, re-lap the valves so they seal properly and they should be fine as long as the head isn't damaged..

From what ive heard if your timing belt breaks on a Sohc the chances of you scrapping the head are very slim,,And for a Dohc head,I heard they are the ones to worry about. The Mechanic at my local dodge dealer/garage said he's seen alot of Sohc with broken timing belts and not one had bent valves,He said the valves in a Dohc headsare the ones that bend when the timing belt breaks..
So maybe your head is still good,Honestly if your gonna swap the head,Just pull it off and check it..Maybe it still can be saved,But that's just my 2 cents.Good Luck.
