I know Neons have it pre-wired and such. but is that just for the 95-96? my 97 doesn't have a tach and i want to swap one in but does the '97's have it pre-wired as well?

its pre-wired with yours jake. so you can just buy a cluster with the tach and it will work.

 

From what I’ve read all the 1st gen Neon’s were per wired for a tach. with the possible exception of some of the early 95’s that may required an additional wiring kit.

It should also be noted that there are at least two different tach. clusters 7krpm and 8krpm.
The ones I have on the 8k it has a door ajar light while the 7k has a hazard indicator light socket that is not used.

i had to buy a tach driver to power the one on my 96....it was in no way prewired......
