Default timing belt cover

hey every1 im trying to replace a cam seal and this isprobably a dumb question, but is there anyway i can get the timing belt cover off without removing the crank pulley? in my haynes manual it says to first position the 1st piston to top dead center but in order to do the im going to need to see the cam gear right? and also need to turn the crank pulley so im not getting how i can do one bfore the other... somebody please help lol thanks

right now i can see my Neon, and just about to pull the pulley off

and that pullley is a SOB!

PS. replace the **** with neons.

you have to take the pulley off to remove everything to get to that seal......
you can find tdc by removing the #1 spark plug and shoving a wooden dowl rod, long screwdriver, or anything that i about 1.5 feet long and skinny enough to fit, down in the spark plug hole.....when you turn over the motor by hand, watch the dowl rod til it gets to its highest position....then you have tdc
