belt slipping off
okay, i think i found why my alternator wasnt working properly =... the belt is half way off of the crank pulley! i have adjusted it tightly and with slack and it does the same thing... im not 100% sure but i'd bet my crank pulley isnt in as far as it should be... but it is literally tightened to the max... what should i do?
ya well i have a power steering belt that is roling onto its side then blowing off.... and its tighter than hell... so if you know how to fix that on id love to hear it... are you sure that the alternator isent messed up?
yeah it sounds like the crank pulleu might still be out a bit.....you should try hitting it with a hammer and a punch...make sure to only hit it on the flat spot around the center bolt hole....
might wanna check all the way around the pulley and make sure there isnt a small bend in the outter lip too..
i had a problem where my alt. belt would slip partially off and then when i hit the rev limiter, the belt would go flying.....and it would take the power steering belt along for the ride.....ended up being a small dent in the outter rim

that could be the cause....
if the belt is slipping off, you can check if the pulley is bent by popping the hood with the car running and look at the crank pulley and the alt. pulley....with the speed that they are turning you will be able to notice any small bends....
if the pulley is not sitting on the crank end a far as it should be then take out the center bolt and hit the center of the pulley a few good times with a brass hammer......the brass wont dent the pulley at all
thats what i had to do

alright i took the bolt out, and it came out way too easy almost like it wasnt fully threaded back the way it should be... but i cant get the pulley to budge inward when i hit it with a hammer... what should i do?

It's not gonna budge at all hitting it with a hammer, and it can damage other things in the process.Easiest thing to do is get an air/electric impact gun, then heat up the pulley with a hand torch, and it will go right on.
Mine would not go in at all with my huge wrench or the impact gun UNTIL I heated it up, then it went real easy.Heat is the trick, I repeat heat is the trick.
