My buddy bought a dodge stealth less than a year ago for 8,000$ R/T TT. He has now invested 15,000$ into including the price of the car, not for mods, but to keep the thing running. His wise words were "Though really cool, never buy a 3S (Stealth/3000GT)." Also after the 15,000$ the car is currently not running lol. And for 10k you could do 1 sick SRT-4 swap and still have $$ in your pocket. My other buddies also has an 01 Eclipse GT 5-speed and the car came full of problems at no charge lol, 70Kmiles for 8,000$. It is also the least comfortable interior I have ever been in, and that’s coming from a guy who drives a little neon haha.

I would not go with a eclipse, I have one before and I don't think it is a well build car. The elec problem will drive you crazy. Neon has its problem, but the bottom line is at least my neon RUNS. The problems with the neon like leaking oil, gauge problem and the AC is leaking. other than that the car is fine. Keep this in mind, the repair bill for a eclipse will be about twice as much as the neon with the same problem. After I own the neon for 5 year, I just found out recently that I need 4.5 quart of oil instead of 4, so I am running it low on oil for 5 year, about 80K and surprise besides all the seal need to be replace, the engine is still fine. I think about trading the neon at least three times last few years because of the problems, but the bottom line is fixing it is not that expensive, the most expensive bill I got was the cam seal which cost me 600 dollars, that is including a new timing belt and water pump. I don't know what kind of problem you had with your neon, but if you put in $2000, you will have a nice dependable car for a long time. As for the eclipse, I remember almost every bill I got is close to 1000 dollars, so, think about this before you buy.

2nd gen does look good 3rd gen convertibles look good too i don't like the pre 94's[:'(]but why buy one there basicly the same block on an/a atleast get a turbo.

 

bah.. all talon /eclipse / lasers are junk anyway.... like they all say keep the neon

yep its not only ugly....its disgusting.....siting behind a bush is the best spot for it......though under a rock would be a better hiding spot
a friend of mine had a 1st gen eclipse....i wasnt impressed at all....it was junk

 

old cars have lots of problems haha ide rather go with somthing newer I dont have to put repair money into, so I can afford to mod it. my parents are payin for insurance anyways. I looked at the 3000gts but unless I get the vr4 the sohc 3000 isnt that fast I could just turbo the eclipse. Plus they look hot as hell!

 

So whats wrong with the car?

Also, I like the 98-99 Eclipses.
