Default Head spacer??

Question

I was told that since I am rebuilding my 2.0 DOHC that I should take a head gasket to this race shop here in my town and he could make me an aluminum "spacer" to put between the head and block...

What would be the benfits of this??

You would then have more volume in the engine, but I haven't heard of people doing it on a neon. You would need longer head bolts to start off with.

so with more volume it would lower the compression right??? That would be benificial to me if I where getting a turbo right?? You think its worth it... cost versus benifits??? not the turbo I just mean the spacer?

Its a cheap easy alternative to building you block with low compression pistons. As long as its done right you shouldn't have any problems. I used a 1mm spacer on my 03 SOHC. Many mentioned to split a MLS gasket, i chose to use 2... one on each side of the spacer. I would suggest studs rather than head bolts and try not to go much bigger than 1mm... I barely got my timing belt on due to the head being a bit higher than stock.
