Default wire shorted

Got the head back from the machine shop and she was running great, then the fan from the a/c stopped for a minute and the turn signals quit working for a while. Got back to the house and smoke was rolling outta the dash. traced the wire and it burned off all the coating and I plan on soldering back on a new one tommorrow. any body have this problem or know why it burned up?

Lucky I don't think it messed up the other 800 wires on the same route. It goesfrom the steering column to the center of the dash where it was connected to another wire.

thanx J

yeah, i guess i'm gonna track that wire on a diffent path so if it is something else it won't burn up the whole harness.

In my old rt I had a mystery ground that grounded out and melted all the wires from the headlight switch to the license plate bulb. It was not pretty. I replaced the entire wiring from the engine back in that car. It was a nightmare. When the fuel pump died I said screw it and parted the car out.
While waiting to find a replacement harness I wired the brake lights to a switch. That suuuuuuuuuuuuuucked...
Not fun!!!

yeah should of blown a fuse, unless, the fuse used was to high amperage. direct battery connection, or something drawing a lot of power but not over rating the amperage.
