My wife's 99 Neon is having electrical problems. While driving down the road the electric shuts off and comes right back on in an instant. All the gauge needles drop and come right back up, the radio and lights blink off and back on. At first it didn't seem to effect the motor running but she just called and said the car has done ittwice on her way home and this time the engine turned off and then came back on after a second. I thought it might be the alternator as the bearing were squeaking about a month ago, but they are pricey so I wanted another opinion before spendingany money. Thanks in advance.

 

i would check all the battery cables and the + wire to the fuse / relay box under the hood to start. and the ground straps. seems to be common to get bad connections on these cars.
ive had the most trouble with the feed wire to the box under the hood and the connections at the starter.

 

i had a problem just like that a while back......ended up being a junk battery
