Default Condenser problems

I have a 97 neon, and I have learnd a few things about this car of mine. The first being that it's a DOHC and that in it's self accounts for only 23 percent of the neons out there. The second being that if your Neon Vin number begins with a 1 it's made here in USA. If it begins with a 3, it's "Made in Mexico babe".

One of the things I'm noticing around the junk yards is that the USA models have a completely different ( and aparently more reliable) condenser in them. And they are not interchangable. So if you have a Neon and it's losing it's A/C, look at your Vin. number, if it's a 3, take a look at the condenser, look at the very bottom left corner of it. Is it wet looking? Thats because there is a soldered joint there that leaks ever so slightly. It's wet because your A/C oil is getting on the coils and collecting dirt. The USA models don't have this problem.

One other thing, if this is your problem also as it is mine, replace your expansion valve as it is causing extreme high side pressure (over 300psi).

Default RE: Condenser problems

Thanks for the Info - I did not know this one!

I kinda wish my car has AC - but then reality sinks in and I would think of all the HP the AC would be stealing/wasting and the extra weight I have to push in my car while on the race track!

I guess will will just settle for my Kool Shirt!
