Default Front brakes for 98 Neon

I bought brake pads and new rotors. The guy at the store said I need to clean the pads off and sold me some cleaner and crap because the pads have a film on them.

Any suggestions? Should I just use sand paper?

It's been about 16 years since I've changed brakes (obviously the first time I need to for this car). Is there anything weird about Dodge Neon calipers? Rotors?

Thanks!!

take the new rotor and spray it off with the brake parts cleaner.....then just wipe it off with a paper towel

i never do that, i just take the car down the road when i put the new pads on and just bring the car down from like 55 to a stop as quickly as possible without locking up the wheels

that is always a good thing to do, but you really should clean them 1st.....i personally have only cleaned them 2 or 3 times in my life and i change brakes almost twice a month[&:]

Some brake pads contain Asbestos, so be very careful IF you do this. You don't want to breathe any dust particles into your lungs.
