Engine swap mess
Hey,
I just bought two 1995 dodge neons, one was a parts car. The situation is quite complicated, so here it is. One car has a blown 2.0 SOHC engine and a 5 speed manual transmission, as well as a body in perfect shape. The second car has a perfect 2.0 SOHC engine, an automatic transmission and a beaten up body. My goal was to match the good engine with the manual tranny and put it back into the manual car. I pulled both engines and removed the transmissions. I then attached the manual transmission the the good motor and put it back into the good car. Now I am stuck with an electrical mess. I kept the manual computer in the manual car, and all harnesses look like they match up. There is a small short somewhere that causes the oil pressure light to come on in the car whether the key is in or not. When the key is turned to start, the light gets brighter, but nothing else happens. The engine will not start. Anyone know where I can find some detailed wiring diagrams for these cars? Anyone know where my electrical problem might lie? I suspect its a difference in the harness, even though it matches up perfectly.

Here are a few places to start.
.Does your car turn over?
If the answer is no
make sure the nuetral start switch is hooked up
Check battery to starter connections grounds etc.
check the continuity of the start wire.
check the ignition fuse.
get a electrical tester if you dont have one.
as for the oil light staying on that should be easily tracable.Start at the back of the engine where it plugs in.
Electrical problems are not complicated as long as you understand how it works.

Hey, I thought the manual transmission didn't have a neutral/start switch. Where is it? Are you sure the harnesses are the same, because there were no shorts in either vehicle before i performed the swap, and I didn't mess with the wiring at all.

That switch is working. Any other ideas as to why my ignition seems to be bypassed by the oil pressure light? It's not a short on the oil pressure light, because when I unplug the sensor from the motor, the light goes out. It just seems to have bypassed my key.
