Default WONT START AFTER MTX SWAP

My starter broke so i got one from the JY,finished the MTX swap once again(along with a [new] flexplate from the junkyard..i used loctite on all flexplate/clutch bolts as well as most of the tranny/engine bolts..dont have the 4th mount so idles rough..Plenty of tranny fluid..

Started 3 times in the driveway,a little rough but cranked over pretty quick.. back up onto the street fine..put it in 1st and went fine, shifted at like 4500 to 2nd and then it died...tried to crank, along with jumpers but wont start..sounds like the flexplate is holding the starter back from spinning..anyone know whats wrong with it?

ps:starter had smoke coming from it the first time i tried to start it after it died, now it doesnt.

my idle is rough it goes up and down, but doesnt seem to stall.may be the atx pcm is my geuss.

so heres all the best info i can give:

-still using ATX pcm

-JYstarter from different year neon, but the brown wire is hooked up where it should be.

-When the battery charger is on and ground is to the ground on the starter,i get a little crank,no click just sounds like its starting to crank the wheel for a second, then goes to clicks..

-Speed sensor not installed.

-All wiring is good.

-Starter bolts are tight.

-When Turning Flexplate ,manually, starter turns too for a few times then disengages.

-Clutchplate/flexplate bolts are tight.

using the ATX pcm it will idle up & down and stall at random

i think you might want to try a different starter
did you put the shim plate back between teh block and trans

yup plates back on there,i had first done the swap but i didnt tighten the bolts or use loctite so the flexplate bolts came out and scrapped everything up and messed up the holes on the flexplate.so i got another flexplate and screws....so this time i used loctice and a big pipe to tighten them, and now i know what sound it makes in case they come loose again but they are on there super tight....but like i said it died all of a sudden..but u said it may b the PCM..and i started it pretty ok twice, then third time to go drive it and then it just didnt start after that,it seems starters gradually get bad not just all of a sudden..

also how do u do a rolling start,is there a speed u must be at cause i might be able to try to start it like this cause my driveway is angled, but theres only so much room.

just coast maybe 5 MPH and let the clutch out in 2nd or 3rd gear to bump the motor over then push the clutch back in so it stays running. 1st gear is hard on the transmission
you gotta be carefull with chrystler flexplates, too tight and it will crack the center out of them.
go by the correct torque specs.

i had sumone push me in both 2nd and 3rd gear in my driveway, had to stop but id say i was going atleast 5 mph and the car has hopping a bit but no start..like i said the flexplates fine i rotated it many times and wouldve noticed it get hung up if it where broke or sumthing so i geuss im going to get a new starter and if not just return it but last night after using a charger to make sure the (brand new) battery is full with the ground wire connected to the ground of the starter , i got a decent crank for a second actually sounded like it was starting but then went to clicking.

I had the same problem with my neon, turned out it was an alternator problem, I would get clicking but no turn over Had a brand new battery but the alternator wouldn't charge it, swapped it out and it works like a charm.

Like racerx55 said i would change the battery first. I seen several brand new diehard batteries be junk when i worked at sears they wouldn't hold a charge.
