Transmission problem ...Please HELP!!!!!!!!
Hy guys,Ok here is my problem: A friend of my has a 1996 Dodge Neon 2.0L sohc with a 3-speed automatic transmission. The last month the transmission did nos shift to 3erd gear while driving. What i first did was to san the car but the cars computer did not not respond. So we decided 2 open the transmission to wash the filter and the transmission-oil-pan! While opened my friends strated playing with the shifter to see if something was wrong in it. But we could not see noting.Today when we reeinstaled the filter and the pan. And secured that everything was in place. BTWw friend removed the selector-cable to inspect it and it looked like everything was OK.Now when we started the car to go for a test drive the folowing happend:when we selected the shifter to: 1-2-D-R the only thing the car did was go forward but did not shift to 2 or 3.When in R the car just goes forward so we dont have R(reverse) only way to go backward is to push the car.We still have N(neutral). We tried playing with the cable but noting helped. The car still did not shift from 1est gear. In P the car just does not do nothing. Is there something we messed-up or did not reconnect under the transmission while opened??

Please, Please....help us out. I just feel so bad trying to help this guy and not thing turned out worst!!Chris

sounds like you are stuck in limp home mode.
did you use ATF+3? thats the only type you should be using. do not use dextron or mercon or universal fuilds, no matter what your mechanic or parts guy says.

I used Dexron 3 for 8 months in my Neon not a single problem and I don't notice any difefrence from Dexron to the ATF-4.
My transmission did that forward in all gears thing after I did a nuetral drop and the cure was to ada quart of good ol' dexron 3transmissionfluid and rev engine for about a minute at1,500 rpm.
I'm using ATF-4 as recomended and I noticed not one difference in transmission performance. I've driven 18,000 miles with Dexron 3 transmission Fluid and finally found out a month ago whenI changed my filter that it required ATF-4. Amazing huh?
I would go with ATF-4 if you have the chance to buy it cuzI think its the same price as dexron 3 and Chrysler prefers you use it but you wont hurt anything if your in a bind to use Dexron 3. My tranny is still kicking after 8 months of Dexron 3 useand I beat the **** out of it everyday.
