California Smog and Mods
Hi guys I'm a Nubee to this sitethat live in California I have a question, What is the most that I can do to my 420a and still pass the smog "Legally" of course?
Also what should I beware of and ormods to stay away from?
Also what's the most HP (Stick/Auto) to the ground has anyone tested and still passed smog?
And just for the record I have a 99 eclipse non turbo automatic (Please don't boo
).
I know the motors are different in may ways but by thesame token they are the same.
I have been to many sites and seems that most Eclipse 420a owners that mod their cars live in other states and turbo em and the guys who know about the 4G63T's live in the west who post on the net.
Been to a lot of sites and them guys seems to say the same sell it and buy a GST, well I can't I got too far upside down and a lot of cash into this mistake and only wish to make lemon-aid out of this lemon, besides only got 71,000 on the OD.
I would gladly dump 1-3 grand in terms of bolt-ons port polish etc and 5-6 grand for weight reduction Carbon Fiberrims etc but only if I know for sure if it will be worth it.
One shop told me port and polish and may effect the strick smog test while others say it's ok
Also Hi Comp Pistons WILL effect smog in a negative way..
So far I have tried a Carb legal header and it seems that it is responsible for heating my OBII up andtelling my ECU to dump a bit more fule so I had to smog test underground till I can put the stock back on.
So as you can see it's not easy trying to get the dirty little 420a to release more power without problems in Californa.

No joke the machine is very sensitive I did not even think it would alert it but it did California is very very strick on mods in fact what they do is allow you to mod ya car then pop ya hood on the street and give ya a ticket for modding ya car in the 1st place.
I'm on theverge of staying on the road (Trucking ya know) for 1 year straight till I save up the cash and sell what I have and get a real sports car this has been a5 yearlong nightmare.
I saw the 1/4 mile times for the N/A Neons and the N/A Eclipse is pretty much the same[&o]
