Default water in transmission?

My sister bought a 98 neon that needed a transmission. She got it and took it to a transmission shop. They got a transmission and installed it. It ran fine for a few days then started acting up took it back in, and they said it looked like water was in the transmission. I was wondering what ways water would have gotten into the transmission? Will the transmission be no good now since it started shifting badly when the water was in there? It wouldn't even go into reverse for some reason. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks alot.

The transmission shop should have caught this. Your transmission is toast. It will also need a new radiator. The transmission uses a cooler that is integrated into the radiator, if a core bursts between the tranny cooler and the radiator, water will get into the transmission/transmission fluid in the water. Kinda like a bad head gasket. Once water gets in there, the bands are done. Take it in for another rebuild and I would put up a stink since they did not catch that the first time.

There was no transmission fluid in the radiator. Thats what they said anyways. They don't know how it got in there. There is a junkyard down by the river that got flooded, and They got the transmission for her, they toldher it had 50,000 miles on it. I was guessing they must have got a transmission out of one of the cars that was flooded, and not flushed it out or something. They said it looked to only be about a cup of water. So being as though there was only a little bit of water do you think it screwed the transmission up inside? She only drove it for about 4 days before she took it in. Someone please help me know what to do, because I think they are trying to screw her, and I wanted to help her out. She has already blew $800 on a transmission that had water in it. Thanks
