At times i just hate Neons with a passion. So i got a newer engine with 60K on it and i just started driving it a week ago. Now i only got into it a couple times (raced a SRT4... you know the outcome) Now i realize that my car is leaking oil. I got some ink to tell me where from and i found out the oil is leaking from the head gasket. I do have a 30 day warranty on the engine. How bad is it to have the head gasket leaking oil?

 

pretty bad, make use of your warranty if it covers that.

 

I would have had the mechanic put a new head gasket on it before the motor went in the car, I know when mine blew it was throwing oil out of the back of the engine. Just change out the head gasket and you will be good to go.

 

Yeah thats what im gonna end up doing. I just hope the warranty covers it. dont need to waste more money. Is there a more performance type headgasket because i truely dislike the weak stock 1st gen neon headgaskets

 

yea its called a multi layered steel hg
i think post 97 neons have it
its availabke any parts store
and it will not warp or blow

 

The MLS HG didn't go into production until late 98, so 99's got'em.

 

No wonder my 99 neoin had 183K on the headgasket with no problems. The new engine is a 98 so it doesnt have it and it has problems with 61K. So yeah just get a 99 1st gen headgasket set?

I got a Mopar set off ebay for mine for $70 shipped to my door, plus a thermostat and head bolts

Does this look any good, just curious because when I bought mine i was gonna get this until I saw what I got.
