The battery light came on and I tested the battery voltage, and it reads 14.2, and still shows code 41 which is generator field not operating properly, has anyone seen this and know how to fix it?

 

My car did the same thing about 3 weeks ago. Battery light came on, checked voltage was all good when running. Let it go for a couple days, light would come on and off, I had the same 41 code as well. Cleaned all the grounds and battery connections, nothing.

Week later it seemed as though the alternator was crapping out. I'd start off and the lights were dim as hell, (at night) and half way through my drive home, everything slowly got brighter, back to normal. Days later check the voltage again, and it was dead the alt.

Took it apart, phoned around, no one hear sells rebuilds anymore, and a new one is 230 with a core. F%ck!
I stretched the brushes a bit, and cleaned up the connections where the brushes touch with the stator?? I want to call it?? Correct me if I'm wrong, cleaned the contacts to the connector for the wires to the alt. Slapped her back in and shes been good for a week or so now.

Next time it happens, I will break down and buy a new alt I guess, but that was my experience, hope this helped.
