Blown bulb in gear shift console
Since I am new here, I don't know if this has been asked before. I have a 1999 Dodge Neon. I noticed this morning, that my gear shift console wasn't lit up. It's not a fuse since nothing else was off. I have the Haynes Repair Manual for models 1995-1999. There are pictures on changing some of the bulbs, but not that one. On page 7B-3 there is a diagram on the shift cable removal, installation, & adjustment, but they don't show where the bulb is located in the picture where the top piece (labeled, bezel) has been removed. Does that whole unit have to be removed just to get to the bulb? I was just curious if that is a minor job, or should I have someone experienced remove and change it? Thank you!
in order to get the bulb out you have to remove the center console...its very easy...6 screws, 4 in the arm rest cubby and 2 by the cup holders....once the screws are out, pull up the e-brake as high as you can then put the gear selector down in 2.....then just lift the console up and out of the way...
the light for the selector plugs either into the bottom or the side of the selector housing....just twist and pull...
i believe the bulb is a 993 or sumthing along those lines....then just put everything back together in the reverse order
