I just recently purchased my first neon its a 97 with a dohc engine I was reading the neon FAQ's and it said I should run premiun gas in it every other car I owned that required premium said on either the fuel door or the dash to use it any suggestions on this as gas ain't cheap now a days
Thanks
You do realize he said you WONT hurt anything with 87 octane, right?[>:] Paying almost 3.50 for premium sucks. I just filled up myturbo Neon and the total was almost 40 bucks to fill.[:@]But it must be done. I say if you have a high compression or force inducedmotor than Premium fuel definately. If just a stocker, save some money and go 87 octane.
I used 87 in my old 99 DOHC all the time and it ran fine. Seemed to be a little peppier with 93 and a little bit better MPG, but still ran fine with 87.
Funny, I was just looking through the owners manual the other day and saw this. It says run 89 octane, but a minimum of 87. So, I would say you are fine running 87.
great thanks everbody for the replies I just want to make sure i am not hurting anything by running 87 on it, it doesn't knock so it should be OK but I want to make car last me a few years and If I need to run 93 I would as it would be cheaper to spens a few dollars at the pump than to put a new motor in it
i ran 87 in my 1st dohc r/t for 3 years with no problems at all.....ive had about 7 dohc's since then and never had any problems....i just started using 93 when i turboed my car
