Alternator voltage output...
ok heres my original problem... https://dodgeforum.com/m_1067116/tm.htm
Some people told me to unhook the battery wires and check what voltage I get at the wires from the alternator...
What is an exeptable voltage????
I checked it last night and it was like 17.43 - 17.60 that seems a bit hight to me but what do i know...

heres the weird thing though I had it replaced today with another brand new yellow top under warrenty and when i got it in my car my voltage gague read an even 12volts with the car off, right after installing it. When I got home tonight from work and shut my car off I clicked the key to the on position to check where the voltage was and it was sitting at about 10.5 - 11 volts. Before all this happened I would put my key in and it would be sitting at about 12.5 when i put the key to the on position without starting the car. When the car is running the voltage gauge says about 13 volts even. I hope this one isent going out....god this is pissing me off... And I know those clamps are tight, really tight. Shold i switch my starter wires to the top post and my accesorys to the side posts??? Or just put the 2g wire for my starter wires in with the amp wires in the schosce adapter thingy???

heres another thought...
I have probally a half a mile of wire running around my car from all the accesorys could something be shorted out causeing this??? God why do i ask that i know the answer maybe i just dont want to go threw it all. FTMFW

Your alternator should be putting out about 13.8 volts even if its charging the battery. The excessive wiringmay have damaged the voltage regulator because too much current was being drawn. The voltage regulatoris part of the alternator. If your unit puts out too much voltage, it will ruin your battery (overcharge). Hook up a current meter and see how much current is being drawn. I'm not positive but the stock alternator puts out 90 amps, if you are pulling more than 90, you will need an alternator with more capacity,120 amps or more.
If you need a stock alternator, I've got one on ebay in perfect condition (item 280179689357) but you may need one with more current capacity.
