98 Dodge neon engine upgrade
Hi everyone, I have a 1998 Neon 2 dr sport. I have been told by 2 mechanics and one other person that I can drop in a PT cruiser v6, the only thing I have to modify is the wiring harnesses. Does anyone know this can be done, and if so, has anyone done it with some tips.
Thanks
Thanks
There crazy...super crazy....There is no such thing as a v6 pt...all even the turbo pt was a 4 banger... And you can drop a pt turbo or srt-4 motor but takes lots of work way more then just wiring, more like wiring hell, enuf to want to shoot yourself aerorat did it though.
i always hear people talking about a v-6 cruiser, yet i have never seen one....
either way, you could drop a different 4-cylinder in the car but it still wont be as easy as just a few wires

pt cruiseronly came with a 2.4L. it came with or without a turbo, but never with a v6. you can fit a v6 into a neon but that hell in a handbag. really any motor swap is. if ur gonna do it use the srt-4 2.4L. nothing else is really worth it. u can use the EDZ from a cruiser (2.4l turbo also) but stock it wont produce the same kinda #s if u wanna mod what ever u do get you could probably save some money on the EDZ and just bring up to your own spec, cam, cam gears, cast pistons, h-beam rods, etc. but still your talking about a lot of time money and effort. if u are not able to do it by yourself, i wouldnt even try. because even after you get the engine in the car it will probably take some diagnostic work just to get it running and then some more to get it tuned. i guess all im really trying to say is...

before u do this consider ur knowledge on your own car, do u know enough to do it? do u have the tools? or the garage space? and do u have like 2 k saved up? and another car to drive for the amt of time ur doin this?...cuz i wanted to do a motor swap, just i didnt have another car to drive to work...so i just ended up buyin another car...its possible to do this, im 18, dunno how old u are but from the sounds of it id say 16 17....but if u save up for a year or two, ull have the money to do bout anything, just gotta be able to save it, its not that hard, u just have to want it bad enough.

3. if you want to turbo your car one day stick with the 2.0...if you want to gon/a with your cargo with the 2.4 swap.
4.lastly the v6 may sound faster but it's heavier and is not all that greatand i dont know if the pt came with a v6 but the stratus did and it's a pos compared to the 2.4

Thanks for all the help. But here in Canada, Edmonton, I have seen 3 v6's in the PT Cruisers, I am not sure if it is from the factory or someone placed them in there, but in Canada they do things differently anyway (lol).
I intended to modify the neon by lowering it some, adding headers and duals, getting a turbo, and making some minor body adjustments. I do have other vehicles to drive, namely a 77 vette for the summer, and an 85 caddy, along with my gmc van. So it won't matter how long I have the car laid up. In that case, I need some different and really original chrome wheels, if anyone has any suggestions pass them this way. Any aftermarket heads available? ported etc? let me know.
