If its a 96 its a 1st gen and the codes Crazy gave you are right, where you got the P codes I don't know. I have a 98 and my codes ring out with the CEL.
well if the battery light is on and you are not throwing a code, I would replace the battery, although there should be a code, I think. The gauges probally need to be resoldered, just take the cluster out and either get one from a junk yard or resolder the connections on the back, its not that hard.

 

ok so i went the dodge dealer and had the guy look at it he pointed out a line said thats my vaccum leak.. well i fixed that and it still dies.. should i just junk it?

 

Over a vacuum leak? No.

Changet the gasket between the intake manifold and throttle body, replace your idle air control sensor and the throttle position sensor and reset the pcm for 20 minutes to an hour or more by removing the negative battery cable.

And if you are seriously going to gt rid of it I'll take it off your hands.

ok so i went back to advance auto today.. had them test the battery and alternator and they said both work fine... so what else would keep the battery light on? i like this car i want to fix it :/

 

I thought all 96 year models in North America are OBDII, I might be wrong.

I am new here. Where can I buy a 1996 Neon repair manual, something better than Chilton or Haynes.

 

They are all OBD2.

The only real manual is the FSM (Full Service Manual) an dit pretty much cna only be bought at the dealer. It'll run you about $100 but is well worth it.

You might be able to find one for your car on EBay but I wouldn't bet on it.

 

well heres an update it was the map sensor it was smashed so i put on a new one and it runs great
