My friend was in the bad situation of needing a cheep car and now is the owner of a 96 neon.

It has a coolant leak from the plastic pipe setup that is behind the water pump. This leak is right where the plastic pipe fits into the water pump housing.

It looks like there are two bolts holding this ridiculous thing to the block of the car and against the mating surface behind the water pump.

Do I just remove those 2 bolts and get a new gasket and some sealant and stick it back in there? What is that thing called?

Probably a leaking o-ring.

And yes the water pump is in an inconvenient place.

The water pump or back of it gasket ,yeah I had the same proplem.

 

Yeah It was the O-Ring.

It came apart better than I thought it might. Found an o-Ring that fit pretty good, put some thick grease on it shoved it back in and it works great now....no leaks.
