Default blown fuse when turning on lights

Hi everyone. I just bought a 98 neon coupe. The tail lights did not turn on when the head lights were on. I noticed there was a fuse missing so I replaced it and pulled the light switch and blew the fuse. The car had an alarm on it that was not working so I removed it and re-spliced the wires correctly. Bought a couple of fuses and tried again. No luck blew another fuse. I traced the wires around the trunk area and all are still factory wrapped. Any suggestions? I think it might be the switch? Anyone know how to test it? Thanks in advance. Oh, the gauges did not light up and the fuse is good???

My cavalier did this, everytime i would turn on the headlights it would blow a fuse. I believe, if i remember it correctly, it was a loose connection behind the fuse box and when the car would bounce, the wire would jiggle and come loose, and would cause it to arc. Popping the fuse.

Found the problem. The rear light assembly had crushed a wire to the tail lights enough for it to ground out. I cut the wire and spliced it and works like it should. Thanks Spawne32 for the reply
