Default new head, car dies. wtf........

My car won't idle. it has to warm up a long time before it will w/out shutting off. I have to crank it a long time to get it started too.

these were my problems three days ago

yesterday - i started my car after cranking it - having it burble a little, then shut back off three or four times. i get going, and it shuts off at the stop sign for the parking lot. i restart it. im angry at this point cuz i just put 700 in a new head/gaskets/etc after a broken timing belt and its running like ****. so i rev it to about 5500 to first, and 5000 to second. to get off campus.

i start going up a hill - and it starts to pop really loud and deccelerate. i downshift and apply more throttle, it backfires and slows down. it eventually slows to about 3mph and shuts off. it will not start now. we towed it back to campus with a tracker and a tow rope.

the plugs and wires only have a few thousand miles on them and they are both good. at first it felt like i lost a cylinder when i started up the hill, i cant be sure but it felt like i lost them one by one. i dunno. any ideas? i dont have the tools here to do much other than what ive done. which is check the plugs and wires. i can hear my fuel pump when the ignition is turned on.

check your fuel pressure at the fuel rail it should read about 49 psi at idle

Here's a question, if my DOHC motor was aligned as in the first pic rather than the second, would it not start? or even worse yet, the valves bend(again)?

*Edit*
If you place the "pointer" as you have it in the second pic, isn't that ATDC, when you want it to be BTDC? Reason I say this is because my manual shows you place the pointer on the crank 1/2 notch to the left, as in the first picture.
