i had a little mishap this mornin . i spilled a little bit of power steering fluid on my manlfold and alt. i wiprd up what i could drove to the store and a little smoke can out opened the hood and my power steering filler tank was on fire.put it out it didnt burn a hole or any fluid poured out but now my battery light is on and when i come to a stop my motor revs up untile i come to a complete stop .belt is still on and tight .anybody knowif my alt. went bad or maybe i can clean it.
your just going to have to let it dry compleatly before driving it... power steering fluid is flamable as you found out... so unless you want another fire your going to have to let it dry... or I guess if you would like you can take the alternator out and just spray the **** out of it with brake cleaner... i mean use a whole can.... it dry's fast but you will have to push all the power steering fluid out... If you feel cofertable taking the alternator front cover off that would help more... if that dont work... get a new alternator... I have one laying around if you need it...
i was just wondering . i have a bad alt. so i callered the neighborhood parts store they asked that question .after i did my on research they both use the same alt.
