I would just do the 2.4 if you plan a rebuild anyways. Because if you plan to pull the crank, you will need to pull the engine all the way out anyways.

depends how much $$ you have on hand. its one thing to take out a good running DOHC and swap the block out for a 2.4 - but ur gonna be in it an entire engine.

if you've got the cash, the time, and the kno-how. swap it! make sure you have all three tho

I just got back from tearing apart my DOHC, i got the head off and found bent valves on cylender number 1 and 2, I also found both cams and head to be bad both head and cams are deeply gouged. I also found after removing head number 1 piston does not move so i susspect a broken connecting rod. I will be pulling moter out next week.

Don't let people try to scare you from doing the 2.4 swap... its pretty simple... plus you have alot of the stuff you need just by having a DOHC 2.0.... Boxer did it for just about 1200 bucks and the only parts he had allready due to haveing a sohc was the alternator and starter and transmission... and the motor cost 800 bucks... however his motor only had like 27k miles on it so you can normally find them for about 300 in your local yard... the rest is pretty simple... If you can take a head off your motor and get it back on and timed correctly you can do a 2.4 swap...

I can pretty much do anythig when it comes to working on cars, I was a ford master tech for 10 years now I teach automotive technology at a vo-tech high school but I just don't know much about what combos work with dodge motors. I been slowly trying to learn because I fell in love with neons after building a 97 2dr sohc into a 4cyl dirt oval track car. No ford could touch this at the track and it's stock. I love these cars!
