I am a computer IT tech where I work and if you have any computer problems beyond the forum characters acting up then I'd happy to help!. Its most likely a Vbulliten problem or at least its consistant with a commonVbulliten Forum Software glitch. Nothing to worry about just tell BadStrat to update his forum software!

I'm pretty sure you know what your doing a with a DOHC Neon and a Neon in general I've read and admired alot of your posts and work especially the srt turbo on a first gen dohc and its obvious your a very smart person( I based my dohc Neon off of reading your posts).

No offensebut you seem to beclueless on sohc's just based on that fact that you were quick to swap a dohc engine into a car with the higher sohc 2.89 gear ratios, and people thought the dohc atx with 3.63 gears was a slow s.o.b yours wouldn't beat a 8hp go kart off the linewith a dohc's powerband on those gears.

I really want to know if there is anybody who's ever driven a dohc and a sohc both with 3.55 or both with 3.94 gears to say that a sohc is slower. I would love to see the *** dynomometer that says a dohc isfaster in the Quarter mile, if both these motors are using the same gears no way in hell your going to be able to tell me a difference. Look at Boxer he's having a fun time with 3.55 gears on his 2.4 DOHC swap, he can't do over 108mph or 112mph plus he stays even with a CRX, near stock 5 speed Neons dohc or sohc wipe that same car by car lengths not fender lengths. He didn't believe me either but I bet he takes that into account when he's out racing around. You can say what you want about the potential of each motor and the dohc certainly is the choice for most racers, but the facts are the sohc has better drivability than a dohc does in stock form using stock transmissionswithout getting into major engine building such as pistons and cams. Swapping your transmission out is more bennificial than swapping heads or whole motors. I just find it ignorant to not give a valid reason why the sohc sucks.

I know your just doing a daily driver now so you don't need to harp on me about that I understand! Gas Prices the way they are I don't blame you!.

That **** on the combustion chamber side of your sohc is buildup from people using too much water in their anti freeze mixture, quite possible it was a 35-65 mix of anti freeze to water, depending on how bad the head may be cracked or warped.

its not that im clueless about the sohc, i just really dont care for them.....

my 1st 4 neons were sohc's......2 autos and 2 manuals......after my 1st dohc, i told myself that i was never gonna get another sohc.....
i know the dohc autos are slow.....thats nothing new...the sohc autos are faster, but when it comesto an mtx, even using the 3.55 tranny (which i have had in 3 of my r/t's) i would still rather have a dohc......its just my preferance.....i dont care what numbers show or anything, i would much rather have a dohc car....

i wasnt planning on throwing a whole dohc motor in the car, just the head
and i wasnt quick to decide to do the swap because i think the dohc is superior or anything like that, its just that i alredy have everything to do a dohc head swap (most expensive thing being the head).....since i only spent $250 on the car, iam not looking to spend a fortune fixing it......but i was lucky enough to know a guy that sold me a complete sohc motor for $75 so now im just taking the head off of that motor and throwing it on the car.....

so dont get me wrong thinking that i had thoughts of doing this because i think the dohc is better, right now its just because of the money difference....but since i have a good head now, its no longer an issue....

my bone stock (at the time) r/t's had no problem at all reaching 130mph (even with the 3.55 tranny) but any sohc ive ever owned (with a 3.55 tranny) took for ever to get to anything past 100mph......
my old blue r/t had no problem keeping up with a 98 grand prix gtp that a friend of mine owned....that was until i blew the motor while i was passing him.....but thats what happens when you have 130,000 miles on a motor with 14,000 miles on the same super-tech oil

i personally just dont car for sohc's....its my preferance...and i in no way plan on preeching that to anyone...its just a preferance

I just find that hard to believe about getting up to 100mph takes that long, I barely use 1/4 throttle in 3rd gear (drive) and I get the job done without sweating it and I have the atx, when i want to beam it I keep second gear going till around95mph and it gives enough momentum. With aMTX's lower gears I'm certain I could get it done way quicker than now. I **** you not I wiped clean a Grand Am GT 3.1 V6 from 65mph to 115mph by3+ cars! I know street racing is bad but it was on a open highway with nobody but us 2 cars. The best one thus far has to be a Metalica Pastel Green 2005ish Mustang V8which I totally posted on the highway in front of his girl friend.

I guess I've fallen in love with both motors owning both but the thing that recently turned me onto a sohc was the fact of how this 95sohc motor feels so good with the atx, maybe its the 52mm tb that gives it that growl and buck? Maybe its just a healthy one for once I don't know, but I do know these motors are a decent motor and I no longer look down at them.

I actually bought a white dohc atx Neon last Saturday and it doesn't seem like too much of a slouch, I cleaned plugs new wires ect and it runs great. My red turbodohcsport is going to be sweet I'll get it running in a few weeks after I get my PTclutch off back order.

I'd take any of these 4 cylinder dohc or sohc over any of that japanese crap any day even if one made more power. I'm Mopar and Domestic all the way except I like Mitsibishi's, Ferraris and Lamborghini's.

I respect your choice but I know that the sohc wont let you down under most cercumstances If you need parts i got many, from 95-99 and some 03 parts too, just give me a pm and let me know.

oh i dont doubt that the sohc wont let me down....hell if i thought that, then i would have swapped a dohc in it right away......
alot of the sohc parts that were on the car i got were broken (thermostat housing, timing belt covers, and a few other pieces) so im happy that i atleast got my hands on a complete motor so now i have extra sensors and everything....the motor i got came out of a 98 stratus....

last nite i took the cam out of the old head so i can put it in the new one, i would of had it swapped in last nite, but it was almost midnite and i didnt wanna **** off my neighbors by using the impact wrench......
as soon as i get a head gasket then i will have the motor back together.....
last nite i also put my 3-D altezza taillights on it (since 1 stock taillight was broken) and i put the m3 mirrors on it (since 1 stock mirror was broke pretty bad and the other was just missing)
now im just trying to decide wheather or not to swap it over to a 5 lug

I love how this started as a wtb thread and turned into a SOHC VS. DOHC extravaganza... wow...

It wasn't really a dohc vs sohc debate I was just hopefully trying to save him some work if his sohc was decent enough to keep, and out lining the sohc's strong points. To me I don't really care what motor comes in my Neon as long as its aChrysler product.

Sure would like to find a 95 dohc mtx computer for cheap, have a atx comp.To beat a old subject I have 2 race cars 1 a dohc mtx the other a sohc mtx. I know which one is faster. I have not lost in my dohc this year, the sohc is fairly close but the few times I raced it this year I have not won.
