What do you think of this??
Here's my idea for a custom air dust. I wanna try and keep everything as stock looking as possible. I'm planning on the duct having two air inlets instead of one like stock but thats about the only difference. I was wondering how much clearance there is under the hood? Anyone have an idea about how tall I could make the intake? Thanks for the input!

Ok I have a First Gen SOHC Neon. They have an air inlet that takes cooler air from the front of the engine and take it to the rear where the airbow is located. This is right above the exhaust manifold. I would like to remake the air inlet, because I bet that there are resonators in it restricting the airflow.
Well you'd probably want to get a good look at one first for the resonators because if they are there they are there to improve airflow across a broad powerband. Probably not. Then if you do not increase the area you need to make sure you do not unecessarily alter air velocity as this may actually drop horsepower not increase it. If you do not icrease the area for air to flow then two intake may not help because you are not icreasing the out pipe.
If you have a straw that is 1/8" diameter and suck would you get more if you divide the bottom into 2 1/4" inlets with the same 1/8" hole for you mouth??? Nope.
So if you have a larger thottle body and the outlet of the manifold in question feeding said throttle body and intake is larger you may need more inlet to feed the larger intake manifold. But remember center is currently tuned to the diameter intake and outlets it has. If you increase the in and out but have a restrictive middle still not goig to be productive. Time to start measureing . Maybe a little playdough for clearance measurement to the hood.

Buy a true CAI, thats your best best. They have put a lot of time and money into designing it, it will most likely be better than what you can make. Anything ghetto rigged or home made is generallly not as effective, not to say that it can't be done, but an engineer is a good thing to have on your side.
