Default Engine dies

1995 stock with 178,000 miles.

I got this car as a daily driver to combat high fuel costs. It had a bad oil leak which tuned out to be a rusted oil pan, I replaced the pan and stopped the leak and it ran like a top for about a month.

One day, on the way home it died, just like the key had been turned off. There were no warning signals or sputtering it just died. I waited a few seconds and it started right back up and drove as if it had never happened.

Since then it has gotten progressively worse, shutting off more and more frequently, it still starts back up, for now.

From what I have read I am leaning toward the crank position sensor being at fault but I just wanted to check to see if anyone else may have had similar symptoms and have a definative solution or diagnosis.

Is your check engine light on? If so, do you know how to read what the computer is throwing up?

The check engine light is not on, nor does it come on before during or after it dies.

Sounds like the crankshaft sensor to me. I had the same problem found out the clip on the crankshaft sensor was loose.

I had the same problem mine usally quit after a right turn, finally started pulling wire bundles apart and found where the wire bundle was attached on the bottom of the fuse box ( next to the battery ) several wires where rubbing the fender well, and that whole wire bundle the insulation was melted together. I replaced the wires, moved the wire bundle and havent had any more prob.

Sounds like a bad crank sensor or overheating fuel pump.
