Default Ran a GTI last night.

I was drivin around last night and pulled up to an older GTI, mid 90's. He reved and I figured why not try, so we went. I was actually pretty suprised at the results, I won by about half a car length. We did this 3 times light to light, about a quarter mile each time, and the same result.

I don't remember the exact years and models, but the eclipse with a turbo is pretty quick, allthough the srt-4 would definatlly win. Maybe he wasn't pushin it, it all honesty you wouldn't be much of a match without a turbo.

I've driven my brother-in-laws GTI...I think it was a 96. It was the VR6...I think 200hp. I can say this, it moved pretty well on the highway, I downshifted from about a 55 roll and it moved pretty well. That was a long time before I had my neon so I can't say as to how it compared. But I can tell you that they are not slow.

I belive this was an auto. I would think that he was trying, the result of each race was me ahead by half a car, so if he had more, I would think he would have used it. I just about ran out 3rd so we were over the speed limit, maybe he just didn't know how to drive?

If it was the auto you could probably take one. The manual is pretty quick though, it seemed a lot more torquey then my neon. I mean it is a V6 so it should have a lot more torque.

if he raced a mid 90's gti then theres a chance he raced a 2.0 16L which if manual and stock would be in his favor. I have raced my cousin's 96 jetta gls with the 2.0 8v and after 1st gear hes done once i shift to 2nd. Now this is with my stock 03 sxt 5speed neon. Given the conditions Casper should have won unless the Gti was modded cause those cars take great to mods. If it was a autotragic then its a given [sm=chairshot.gif]
