Default power outlet question

in all my other neons, the power outlet/ cigarette lighter would only come on when the car was on. in my 99 its on no matter what. I don't like this one bit. I have forgotten to unplug things & have come outside the next day to a near dead battery. is there any way to mod it so it only comes on when the car is on? thanks in advance.

what the hell could you be using that would drain the battery overnight?
I guess if you wired it from your Ignition to your cigarette lighter it may work. eaisest acess is to remove the knee panel and i think it is the biggest yellow and black wires. If anything try to determine which ones they are by the gauge of wire used. and of course items that require more power will use a lower number gauge wire.

You'd be surprised what can drain a battery, especially one that needs replacing anyway... I wish this was easy to do. I dont wanna go screwing with wires unless I know 100% what I'm doing.

I hear your pain, I too do not like messsing with things i am unsure of. This is why I use the blue plastic pieces used to tap into a wire. this way you can remove the tap later if it creates an issue.

things you will need:
blue plastic wire tap
wire cutters/stripers/crimping tool
screwdriver
multi meter

every neon ive ever owned kept power to the socket at all times....i love this feature...

as long as you arent using anything that draws too much power then you could cut the wire off that back of the socket and tap it into the radio

hmmm.... I may just reinstall my old power strip with the switch until I can work up the cojones to start splicing stuff. I nearly set a car on fire once with a bad splice several years ago so you can understand my hesitation :P
