Unhappy 420a weakness

I need to rebuild my DOHC this summer (or sooner). I started the car and rods are knocking louder. I suppose it could just rod bearings shot, but what if the rod bolts or the rods themselves weak? Should I upgrade the rods or pistons if I'm planning for 200 HP and another 100K miles? What about head gaskets, which are less prone to blow-outs?

Where is the inherent weak point of the 420a neon engine?

i wouldnt be able to tell you where the weaknesses in the 420a engine, but in the neon engine, the rods dont hold up all that great under high power.....

ive never had an issue with felpro head gaskets...ive even reused a few with no issues...

<<<took me 5 engines w/ the #3 piston flying out the side every time to get me to buy Eagle Rods for my neon. each engine went w/ a little over 170-190 thou. miles on it.
