Driver's side window problems
I could use some pointers, explicit instructions would be even better, LOL. The window on my 97 Neon won't roll up all the way and has trouble going down as well. How hard is it to reach the mechanisms inside the door to replace the parts? I'm pretty sure I know what the problem is I just don't know how to get at it. The door panel cover is already off but the metal panel behind it is spot welded or so it seems to me. What kind of work am I in for? Would it be better to take it to a mechanic? Thanks in advance for any reply posts :0)
If it's a 2 door -
Take a flashlight and look down from the opening at the rear part of the window slot. There is (should be) a barley visible top piece "guide" of the upper window arm that keeps the window on its rear track.
When you roll the window down, it pulls away from the guide (thats ok), but if the guide if broken, it blocks the window from cranking up all the way and reseating itself (stops anywhere from 3/4 on up. If the top piece is busted or cracked, 'tis a pain to replace, as its part of the window assembly mech. I had my body shop do the deed.
Happened on 2 of our family Neons (both 2 doors). Dunno if the same is applicible to the 4 -doors.
